Feeding my family healthy food is one of my top priorities.
I make time for grocery shopping twice a week and I make as much food as I can from scratch. I just love the feeling that I am doing my best to nourish my family in the best possible way.
However, come Friday after a long week of work, cooking, cleaning and driving the kids around, I’m kind of over it. And I’m not alone because I know a lot of Mums feel the same way. By Sunday I’ve usually got my mojo back and I get stuck back into it again, preparing sweet and savoury goodies for the kids’ lunchboxes for the upcoming week.
Truth be told though, sometimes I just can’t be bothered, and this weekend was one of those times.
Instead of baking muffins on Sunday morning, I chose to stay that little bit longer at the beach for an extra dip.
Instead of making quesadillas that afternoon for lunch boxes the next day, I chose to go to a friend’s birthday gathering and stay until early evening.
I had fun. I chose me. I experienced joy, meaning and fulfillment.
Come Monday there was still so much good stuff to pop in my kids lunch boxes – cut up fruit and vegetables, toastie wraps for lunch, a long forgotten muffin found in the bottom of the freezer. My kids certainly weren’t going to starve.
You see, the food we eat isn’t the whole health story. Having a laugh with friends, languishing in the ocean, working on an exciting project, or sitting for five minutes to focus on deep breathing are all nourishing for us too. It’s just that they aren’t presented on a plate. Nevertheless, they have an incredible impact on our overall health.
Maybe there are different types of foods (other than a fruit or vegetable) you might be missing too? It might be worth taking a moment to check in and figure out some of the different ways you can infuse joy, energy, satisfaction and positive health into your life.
